Planning

The guide What to Do in the Event of Death, published by the Government of Quebec, outlines the various steps to take following the death of a loved one. Service Canada's After a Death page is also very informative.

However, some aspects do not apply to the deceased's situation. In case of doubt, don't hesitate to ask us for advice.

The death benefit from the Régie des rentes du Québec (RRQ)

Upon the death of a loved one, you could receive a death benefit of $2500 from the RRQ if the deceased had made sufficient contributions to the Quebec Pension Plan. This benefit is paid to the person or organization who paid the funeral expenses or to the heirs. You can ask your Æterna Funeral Complex counsellor for assistance in making this request.

For more information, visit the RRQ website.

If the deceased is not entitled to it or if the deceased's resources are insufficient to pay the minimum fee of $2500 at the time of that person's death, you may be entitled to a special funeral benefit from the Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale.
